Dear Parents, Guardian and North Hunterdon Student,
Extracurricular activities exist to provide educational experiences not otherwise provided to our students in academic courses. North Hunterdon High School is dedicated to offering our students a variety of extracurricular activities that appeal to our students varying needs and wants. While NHHS believes that extracurricular activities are an essential part of education, academics take precedence. All students participating in athletics or co-curricular activities must be enrolled in the North Hunterdon Random Drug Testing program. Students are expected to maintain good academic standing, including attendance and discipline, in order to be eligible to participate in extracurricular programs, including senior parking and dances, per North Hunterdon-Voorhees Board of Education Policy No. 2430.
For purposes of this policy, co-curricular activities are those activities conducted on or off school premises by clubs, associations, and organizations of pupils sponsored by the Board of Education as well as parking and all ticketed dance events at NHHS, and do include athletic competitions and practices, which must follow all NJSIAA rules and regulations.
When a pupil becomes ineligible for participation in co-curricular activities by reason of poor attendance or poor academic performance, the advisors of the co-curricular activity in which the pupil participates will be informed. The advisor will suspend the pupil’s participation.
- A pupil who has been suspended from participation in co-curricular activities for reason of poor attendance will be offered an opportunity to work out a plan for improved attendance with the Principal or designee. If the pupil adheres to the plan and demonstrates his or her improved attendance within a period of not less than thirty days, the pupil may be reinstated to participate in co-curricular activities.
- A pupil who has been suspended from participation in co-curricular activities for reason of poor academic performance will be offered an opportunity to establish with the Principal or designee performance goals in the objectives and timelines for improvement. When the pupil meets the agreed upon performance goals, he or she may be reinstated to participate in co-curricular activities.
- Athletic eligibility will be determined following all appropriate Board of Education and NJSIAA rules and regulations.
- If you have already completed the required athletic paperwork, the Random Drug Testing sign off form was included in that packet.
