North Hunterdon High School softball team jumped out to a six-run lead and held on for a 6-4 victory over Hillsborough today in the NJSIAA Group 4 championship game in Toms River.
It was the Lions’ second championship in two title game appearances with the first coming in 2006 against Steinert.
Mason Spichiger finished 4-for-4 with two RBIs while allowing two earned runs and seven hits in seven innings on the mound. Spichiger got Hillsborough‘s top hitter Alyssa VanDerveer to pop out in the bottom of the seventh inning to clinch the victory.
Megan Graham, Isabella Many and Kayla Parker each had two hits for the Lions. Carly Severini had a two-run double for North Hunterdon in its three-run first inning.
