May 4, 2020
Today Governor Murphy announced that his executive order to close New Jersey schools because of the COVID-19 pandemic will remain in effect for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. Therefore, virtual learning will continue until the end of this school year to meet the 180 day requirement. In addition, in consultation with the NJSIAA, the Governor announced that the remainder of the spring sports season has been cancelled. I know this is not the end of the school year that any of us wanted, but as the Governor stated today, the health and safety of our students, staff and families is a top priority.
With regard to year-end events, the principals are discussing all available options with important stakeholders including senior class officers and parents. Unfortunately at this point in time, we cannot provide firm details on events as there is much uncertainty as to whether in-person ceremonies can be held in June. We are required to follow social distancing guidelines and will be consulting with the county health department in finalizing our decision on events. We appreciate your patience and we will release final event details as soon as we can.
I want to again thank everyone, especially our teachers, as it is Teacher Appreciation Week, for your commitment to virtual learning. As we move into the last five weeks of the 2019-2020 school year, please reach out to teachers, counselors, administrators or technology staff if you or your student need any assistance.
Please continue to follow all safety guidelines from the CDC and health department to help you and your family stay healthy.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Bender
Superintendent of Schools
North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District
