Frequently Asked Questions for New Students

If you are new to the District, the following FAQ might help answer some of the questions you might have regarding Technology in the District.

As a NHV student what Technology resources are assigned exclusively to me?

As a NHV student you are assigned the following:

  • A student account – Your student account let you access all the online services offered to you by the school. The username/password of your student account is given to you with your locker information.

  • A student email address – Your student email address let you communicate with teachers and peers about school work without sharing your personal email. You must use this account when communicating with your teachers. Your email address is given to you with you locker information.

  • Cloud storage via Google  – You get access to a special version of Google Docs, Google Calendar, Google Sites, and Google Mail that is managed by the school.

  • Online storage in the school – In addition to your Google cloud storage, you are assigned a personal folder in our school servers. This is meant for temporary storage of files while in te hschool network or when files are too large for your cloud storage. This is commonly known as your “H:” drive.

  • A Mobile Computing Device – You are assigned a mobile computing device.  Since 2013 the device of choice has been a Chromebook (see the 1:1/BYOD section of this website for more information).

What can I access with my student account?

Your student account lets you:

  • Login to the computers in the school labs.

  • Login to the laptops in the school mobile laptop carts.

  • Login to your school email (via GMail).

  • Login to your Google cloud storage space and apps (Google sites, Google calendar, Google docs).

  • Login to the school gradebook portal “Aspen” where you can see your grades, schedule, and other information.

  • Login to other online tools offered by the school, such as: Moodle, WordPress.

What is my school email address?

Your school email address is username@student.nhvweb.net

Your username is usually your Last Name followed by your student ID.

Can I share my student account information?

No. Your student account information (username/password) is personal. You should never share your password with anyone. Sharing password is a violation of the school appropriate technology use policy.

 

As a NHV student what shared Technology resources are available to me?

Under the supervision of a teacher or staff member you can use the following shared Technology resources:

  • Desktop computers in the school labs

  • Laptop/Tablets computers in the school’s mobile carts.

  • Mobile devices in the school’s media center (e.g. kindles, tablets)

How many computer labs are in the school?

We have 2 computer labs at VHS and 4 computer labs at NHHS. These labs are specialized labs (e.g. Tech lab, Art lab, video lab).

 

Are there rules and guidelines on how to use the Technology in the school?

Yes. The school has several regulations and guidelines on how to use the Technology that is made available to you as a student. Please visit www.nhvweb.net/technology/policies/ for more information.

 

Can I use my cellphone while in school?

 Yes, but there are several rules (e.g. no voice calls). For a full set of rules regarding cellphone usage please visit the Parent-Student Handbook in your school website.

Do the school offer Technical Support for the Technology it provides?

Yes. Technical Support is available thru the Technology Resource Center (TRC). The TRC is located by the cafeteria at NHHS and by the Media Center at VHS. Additionally you can request support by opening a trouble ticket on http://oneonesupport.nhvweb.net/
