The Voorhees Viking’s season ended on 5/22/17 with a 9-3 loss to #19 Delaware Valley. The Vikes finished the season 8-9 with some tough losses late in the season. A one goal loss to Millburn and an overtime loss to Sparta were tough games, but it was a successful season in many ways. There were great individual accolades achieved, such as Logan Raposo scoring his 100th goal. The team also had exciting first round wins in the county and state tournament where freshman Kyle Stephenson led the way against Newton with 6 goals and 5 assists (11 points)! Alex Hufford, Doug Lemenze, Patrick Evers, Tommy Driscoll, Mark Hodulik, and Jason Knoll all contributed on the offensive side of the ball as well. The team also had thrilling overtime wins against Scotch Plains and Bernards. The defense held strong all year even after losing senior Captain Mike Stazzone midway with a broken thumb. Sophomore Josh Csanyi stepped in cage and led the defense composed of Captain Luke Marturana, John Davis, Jon Ruben, Ben Francis, John Roncoroni, and Nick Pung. The team held Delaware Valley to just 9 goals in the final game which was only the second time this year that the #19 ranked team was held under 10. There were many moments to be proud of and the future is bright for Voorhees. It is time to refuel in the offseason and come back even stronger next year!! GO VIKES!!
