During the second week of January, the counseling staff at Voorhees High School will meet with groups of students to discuss scheduling for next year. These meetings will include a review of the students’ graduation requirements, an overview of the available courses, and instructions for online course selections in ASPEN.
The directions for the course selection process are available on the Counseling Webpage – Click Here. The process includes online teacher recommendations. Teachers will have the opportunity to enter teacher recommendations for their current students in their ASPEN gradebook from December 19 through January 8. Once that process is complete, the students will be able to see those recommendations in their request window.
Students must enter their course selections from January 12-22. The system will close at the end of the day on January 22 and all further changes will have to be completed by the student’s counselor. Please review the directions above and contact the counseling office if you have any questions. The final step in these directions asks students to print a list of requested courses to be signed by both parent/guardian and student to be emailed to the counselor by January 23.
Students must choose their courses very carefully for next year. Please refer to the 2024-2025 Course Selection Guide as you make your selections – click here. Students should not choose courses to try them out to see if they will like them. Students will not be permitted to make schedule changes in the fall unless it meets one of the district-approved reasons.
Class of 2027 parents: Please be aware that 9th-grade students met with their counselors during the first semester to complete the Counseling Gameplan. Students responded to various questions about their high school and post-high school plans and goals. Please talk with your student about their plans and goals as you prepare to schedule courses for next year. Please reach out to your student’s counselor if you have any questions.
During the past few months, representatives from over sixty colleges and universities have participated in college rep visits to meet with small groups of students. Please encourage your students to consider taking advantage of these great opportunities when they are seniors. Students can find out more information about these programs through their Scoir account or by talking with their counselor.
Class of 2026 parents: Students will be working with counselors during the 2nd semester to further explore their career interests in preparation for the spring Career Fair. If you are interested in representing your career at the Career Fair, please contact Marcella Grau at Voorhees (mgrau@nhvweb.net).
Class of 2025 parents: You are invited to set up a post-high school meeting with your child’s counselor. These meetings provide an opportunity to meet with your student and their counselor to discuss post-high school plans. Counselors will be visiting junior classes to talk about the college process. Students and parents should refer to the College Planning Guide for specific information about the college process – Click Here. If your rising senior is interested in an unpaid half-day program focused on gaining valuable work experience in a business in the community, please encourage your student to talk with the school counselor about the Structured Learning Experience (SLE). This program does not require any previous Polytech experience. For other vocation-focused programs, please see the Polytech Program Guide, Click Here.
Student-Athletes and Parents: On Wednesday, February 7th, we are hosting our NCAA Night at 7:00 PM in the North Hunterdon theater. We would like any students and parents (from both North Hunterdon and Voorhees) who are interested in learning more about the NCAA eligibility process to attend this event.
Please contact your student’s counselor with any questions.
Take Care,
Mike Squarcia
