The Voorhees Key Club is sponsoring a blanket drive starting on Tuesday, February 22nd and ending Monday, February 28th. This blanket drive is in honor of Derek Graffis who battled Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and sadly lost his fight after 2 ½ years. Derek was a tall boy, so the hospital blankets just did not ever seem to cover him. A social worker overheard this and went into the blanket closet, but there she only found baby blankets. She apologized and said that from time to time they do get larger blankets donated.
Derek wanted to do something about this. He asked his friends and family members to donate blankets to Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania (CHOP). This year, unlike last year, we are donating to the Goryeb Children’s Hospital in Morristown to impact children a little closer to home. Over the years, his organization has collected hundreds of blankets.
Key Club is asking you to let this touch your heart and donate blankets to this great cause. Green bins will be placed outside of the cafeteria in front of the school in which you can drop off the blankets. Please place your new blankets into these bins. Any blankets will be accepted as long as they are new. This includes baby blankets, quilts and large blankets.
