Dear Members of the Class of 2018 and Parents:
As June 12th approaches, the faculty and administration are looking forward to the graduation ceremony and all other activities leading up to this important event. This is a time of celebration and excitement.
We extend an invitation to all students and parents to attend our Senior Awards Night, scheduled for 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 24 in the auditorium. Families of those receiving awards will be contacted by mail roughly ten days before the ceremony.
Commencement will be held on Tuesday, June 12, at 10:00 am. rain or shine. If weather permits, the ceremony will be held on the Football field. All are welcome. It is possible that the ceremony could be delayed briefly if the weather forecast calls for a passing shower. In the event of significant rain, the ceremony will be held in the gymnasium and admission will be by TICKET ONLY. Each senior will be issued 3 tickets. No one will be admitted in the gym without a ticket. A YouTube broadcast of the ceremony will be shown in the Auditorium and classrooms on the 2nd floor if necessary; this broadcast will also be available online. Students will receive their tickets during graduation practice.
The Board of Education has charged each Principal with developing a procedure that will ensure a dignified graduation ceremony. Any student participating in inappropriate behavior will immediately be escorted from the graduation area and will not receive his/her diploma after graduation. The diploma will be held for a minimum of 30 days. After that time, a conference with the student and parent will be required with the Administration before the diploma is conferred.
The only students eligible to participate in the graduation ceremony are those who have successfully completed all the requirements for graduation. If there is any question concerning your child’s status for graduation, please contact his/her guidance counselor immediately. All students are expected to attend graduation rehearsals. Working students MUST make arrangements with their employers so they are able to attend the rehearsals; they will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M. on June 6th, 7th and 8th. Any student who does not show up for graduation practice or exhibits poor behavior during a practice will jeopardize his/her privilege to take part in the ceremony.
The Voorhees P.T.S.O. will once again sponsor Project Graduation after the ceremony (the evening of the 12th). Project Graduation is an alcohol/drug free party that will be held at the FunPlex in East Hanover, NJ. Bus transportation will be provided to and from the facility. Departure time from the high school will be 8:00 P.M. Admission will be granted to bused students only. Students will return to Voorhees High School around 2:00 A.M. Further information will be sent out by the end of May.
We ask your cooperation in adhering to procedure and schedules. It is our desire that the activities leading up to and including graduation be positive and memorable for all concerned. Please review the following “End of Year Senior Information 2018” document for additional information (click here).
