Crazy For You opens at Voorhees High School on April 7 and runs through April 10. The show features a classic Gershwin score, a hilarious story and tons of dancing. The story follows a tap dancer named Bobby Child who does not want to work for his mother in the bank or marry his stuck up fiancee. Bobby Child is played by accomplished tapper Alastair Stewart who was most recently seen on the Voorhees stage as Dmitry in our fall production of Anastasia. Bobby decides to avoid his mother and fiancee’s demands and instead goes to the rundown mining town in Deadrock, Nevada to foreclose on a forgotten theatre. There he meets and falls for the fiery Polly Baker played by Dee Ypsilantis who was last seen as Anya in Anastasia. When Polly discovers that Bobby is only in Deadrock to foreclose on her theatre, she tells him she never wants to speak to him again. Bobby then devises a scheme to impersonate famous theatre producer Bela Zangler. Bobby, as Bela, gets the townspeople together and they rehearse for a big show to save the theatre. Things are going well for Bobby until Zangler, played by sophomore Nick Leyesa, shows up and wants to help with the show.
The show features a recognizable Gershwin score including classics such as I Got Rhythm, Nice Work If You Can Get It, They Can’t Take That Away from Me, and Someone to Watch Over Me.
