The Early Childhood Education and FCCLA students from Voorhees High School visited and toured KinderCare in Flemington, NJ on October 24, 2018. The high school students decorated pumpkins, read storybooks, sang a spider song and did a floating pumpkin experiment with the Preschool Classes.
“Being able to see a Corporate Learning Center and working one-on-one with a preschooler really opened our eyes to what goes into running a large successful center,” said Lilly Barozzini.
The children’s positive responses to the high school students’ activities created a memorable experience for everyone involved. Following the Kindercare visit, the students had a guided tour of the Hunterdon County North Branch Library in Clinton and a workshop on choosing children’s storybooks. The importance of reading to children and its benefits for literacy was addressed. This valuable information was presented by Kathy Burgess from the Hunterdon County Library.
Grace Anderson stated, “The presentation on storytelling and the early literacy skills that are developed through this practice was very inspiring to me.”
The students will be sharing the storybooks that they chose with the preschoolers in The Little Vikes Preschool.
