Dear Parents/Guardians,
Please see the following message from Pomptonian Food Service.
As part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the students we serve, we would like to, once again, review our best practices for managing food allergies in your District as we prepare for the upcoming school year. Our standards are fully aligned with industry best practices and reflect the highest level of care and diligence. Please take a moment to review the following: “Allergy Statement Letter to Parents” and “Why Pre-Order.”
We currently have this information posted on the Pomptonian Food Service website with your menus to communicate how we manage food allergies with parents. The first document explains our food allergy best practices and provides instructions on how to pre-order lunch for a child with food allergies. The “Why Pre-Order” document provides more background on why pre-ordering is an effective management tool for students with food allergies. Based on feedback received, we updated our best practices regarding the management of coconut. At the elementary level, we will not prepare foods that contain coconut in the manufacturers list of ingredients. It is important that students with food allergies pre-order off the appropriate allergy-aware menu so they receive a meal that is safe. For example, bagels can be produced in a facility with sesame and therefore may contain sesame.
The pre-order allergy-aware menus will be posted with the traditional lunch menus, on the District’s food service website: http://www.pomptonianmenus.com/index.asp?id=north%20hunterdon-voorhees.
We look forward to working in conjunction with the District to manage food allergies. The safety of the students we serve is always our highest priority.
We look forward to a healthy 2024-2025 school year!
