STATEMENT REGARDING HATE SPEECH, RACISM AND BIAS INCIDENTS
Voorhees High School denounces racism and hate speech in all forms. We have continued to examine and implement initiatives to help stop racism and hate speech and to create a better school climate for our students. All students deserve to receive their education in an environment that is free from prejudice against race, disability, ethnicity/national origin, color, sexual orientation, gender, religion, or gender identity. The school recognizes that our country’s Constitution protects freedom of many forms of speech, even if the speech is distasteful. However, hate speech in public schools substantially disrupts the educational environment, and school districts do not need to tolerate hate speech or racism without consequences.
Although our high school continues to combat hate speech, racism, and bias incidents in school, unfortunately, our school is not immune to this issue. We must discuss with students the impact hate speech, racism, and bias incidents have on others and our school community. Working together at home and school will reduce, and one day stop, racism and hate speech from occurring in our school.
If you witness hate speech, racism or bias acts within our school community, please report the incident to a school administrator or use the Harassment Intimidation and Bullying online reporting form linked below:
If a student wants to get involved in creating a better school climate at VHS, please consider joining one of the following student organizations:
- Alliance Club
- Diversity Club
- Spectrum
- Students for Change
You can contact the Director of Student Activities for more information on these clubs.
Please join us in creating a better school environment for all of our students.
