Spirit Fest is October 16-20, 2023 at Voorhees! Spirit Fest is an annual weeklong event at Voorhees High School to increase school spirit and unify the student body leading up to the district’s 48th Annual Milk Can Football Game against North Hunterdon High School on Friday, October 20. And yes, the team plays for a coveted gold milk can, a tribute to our farmland roots in Hunterdon County! Below is the schedule for Spirit Fest that was shared with your student.
This year’s Spirit Fest theme is Blockbuster Movies. Freshmen have Frozen, Sophomores have Minions, Juniors have Super Mario Bros, and Seniors have Barbie. The decorations in the building and the skit during the pep rally all relate to the grade level’s theme.
While Spirit Fest is about school spirit, it is also a competition. The grade levels will try to earn points throughout the week in different events. Points are awarded for Red & Gold dress up day, decorations, pep rally skit, penny wars and food drive. The winning class is announced at the end of the Pep Rally on Friday, October 20.
We hope your student will participate and show off their school spirit throughout the week!
Vikes –
With SpiritFest week starting on Monday 10/16, we just wanted to give you some highlights on this year’s festivities. These themed days have been selected by our Student Council representatives:
Monday, October 16 – Color Block Day – Dress head to toe in the same color. Your 1st period teachers will be recording participation (which counts toward points for your class). You are not expected to wear the same color shoes but it’s worth trying.
- Penny Wars begins – pennies and cash are positive; silver is negative – THIS COUNTS TOWARDS SPIRITFEST SCORING. Containers will be in Cafeteria near the windows. This year’s charity is Hugs for the Brady Foundation. All $ needs to be brought in by 8:30am Friday 10/20.
- Key Club Food Drive Begins – non-perishable goods will be accepted and weighed for SpiritFest points – look for bins across from the elevator on the first floor.
- THE EARLIER YOU BRING IN THE FOOD, THE MORE POINTS YOUR CLASS GETS. 4x Monday; 3x Tuesday, 2x Wednesday, Straight up on Thursday; Friday will be a bonus day of 5x the points – specific items only – these items will be announced.
- Remember that the goal is for this food to be divided up amongst a number of local families. A huge bag of rice or huge cans of something are not nearly as valuable to those families as more reasonable or manageable quantities are.
Tuesday, October 17- Anything but a Backpack – (well almost) – here’s a chance to be a little creative. Instead of your backpack, bring something else to carry around your school stuff. Because we have 3 floors, crowded hallways, etc. there are some exceptions:
- No full size shopping carts, no wheelbarrows, no canoes, no kayaks, no wagons, no sleds, no skateboards or anything that would be difficult to get up and down the stairs (or that someone could ride in/on). No electronics that would require being plugged in (toasters, microwaves, etc). No items that are extremely sharp or pointy (that could injure someone). No weights or extremely heavy items that could hurt someone or damage the property if they were dropped. Nothing that has gasoline or propane within it (nothing that can cause an explosion). Nothing that creates exhaust. If you have a question about whether or not you should bring it then you should ask. You could be asked to leave items outside if they could potentially injure someone or cause a serious disruption. Participation will be measured in your first period class again and counts to your class’s SpiritFest points.
Wednesday, October 18– Teacher/Student Swap – Students dress like teachers. Teachers dress like students. Participation will be recorded by your first period teachers and count towards SpiritFest points.
Decorating Night
– All 4 classes will be decorating from 5-10pm.
– Seniors – Mall; Juniors – alcove outside room 240; Sophomores – alcove outside room 220. Freshmen – alcove outside 310 (SS Resource)
– Each class will receive 1 hour for skit preparation in the Main Gym. Freshmen – 5pm to 6pm; Sophomores 6pm-7pm; Juniors 7pm-8pm, Seniors 8pm-9pm. During your skit preparation hour, no one is to be decorating in your area.
Thursday October 19– Red & Gold Day – Wear any VHS apparel that you can find – or something that is red and/or gold. It must occupy at least 50% of your attire – socks alone are not enough. Participation will be gathered by 1st period teachers and counts to your class’s spirit fest points.
Friday October 20 – Class Theme/VHS Spirit Day – Wear something regarding your class’s theme (maybe get a class T-shirt). You can wear your Beat North shirt (maybe an older one if you didn’t order this year’s shirt). Wearing something Voorhees Related isn’t a bad idea either.
**Decorations must be taken down and areas must be clear by 12:30
***SpiritFest Pep Rally starts at 1pm in the Gym.
This is an awesome event that really sets Voorhees apart. We hope that you’ll join us for all the festivities.
Sincerely,
Ms. Polgar, Ms. Huizenga & VHS Student Council
