Voorhees High School students, staff members and visitors will see a new mascot at the home football games and at various school events this year. A professionally made Vikings costume was donated to the high school through the Voorhees Unified Program. The mascot costume was unveiled at the Fall sports pep rally on Friday, September 7 to rousing applause from the student body.
Following a poll on Twitter, the new mascot now also has a name! Meet Viktor the Viking!
Viktor the Viking has come to Voorhees all the way from Mascot Makers in Windsor, England where he was made. It took about a year from concept to planning and building to make Viktor a reality. Viktor was designed with the help of many supporters across the country and in England who were motivated by the story of the Voorhees Unified Program and its inspiring message of unity.
“The Unified Program has created an all-inclusive, unified environment for all students at Voorhees High School, and this mascot is a reminder that in the end – we are all Vikings. Each and every student is an important part of the culture at Voorhees High School. We hope that the donation of this gift will further inspire Unified’s mission of acceptance, inclusion, and community, and we sincerely thank the parents and individuals (you know who you are) who were responsible for bringing Viktor the Viking to our school,” said Kelly Anne Kieffer, Assistant Principal who oversees Special Education and the Unified Programs at Voorhees High School.
Come out and cheer on Viktor and the Voorhees Vikings sports teams this Fall!
