Voorhees High School students from Mr. Jeremy Brandt’s Advanced TV Production class attended the Student Television Network Convention, which was held March 20-23 in Orlando, FL. Nearly 2,300 students from around the country attended the convention. The Voorhees team competed in five competitions and took 3rd place in the Sweet 16 Film Challenge, the most intense and challenging of all the competitions.
Fifty teams competed in the Sweet 16 Film Challenge, with each team representing a different school from around the country. Teams are given a film title, a prop that must be featured and 16 hours to produce a short film, with a five-minute maximum runtime. The Voorhees team was given the title of “The Big Squeeze” and an orange as their prop at 6:30am and had to submit their finished film by 11:00pm. The team received 3rd place for their short film, which can be seen on the VHSTV website: http://www.nhvweb.net/VHS/Art/mgw/playlist.html (click on video dated 3-24-14).
“It was our first time entering the Sweet 16 competition and it was a great team building experience for us. Just to complete and submit a film under the deadline was a challenge in itself. I’m very proud of all of my students’ hard work,” said Mr. Brandt.
This is the fifth time a team from Voorhees High School has attended the STN Convention. At the 2013 convention, Voorhees students Brandon Simanski and Samuel Roth took 2nd place in the Movie Trailer competition.
