Hey there! I’m so glad you’re interested in learning more about AP Capstone.
Let’s start with Year 1: In a nutshell, AP Seminar gives students the opportunity to learn and implement advanced research, writing, and presentation skills. Students work in teams and independently to complete two performance tasks during the second semester and then sit for a more traditional, essay-style end-of-course exam during AP testing weeks. Students need a strong work ethic, interest in local and global events, and love of learning; no prerequisites must be met or recommendations attained at this time to enroll in the course.
Important things to note regarding AP Seminar:
- Working collaboratively is a critical component of this course; a portion of the student’s AP Score AND some course grades will be group grades
- Presentations will be filmed by the instructor and submitted to CollegeBoard for scoring verification
- As the AP Program engages students in college-level work, the AP Seminar course may include topics or perspectives that could be considered controversial
- Students will be held to both the NHHS Academic Integrity
policy outlined in the Parent-Student Community Handbook and the AP Capstone policy detailed on the CollegeBoard website
Year 2: Students in AP Research will dig deeper into research methodology and practices to create, present, and defend an individual research project.
