April is Math Awareness Month at North, and this year the NHHS Math Department will be celebrating with a variety of activities on the theme The Future of Prediction. To kick-off the month, students competed to paint the breezeway windows with interpretations on the theme and other mathematical musings. Students can visit the site, http://www.mathaware.org, to learn how Mathematics can be used to predict the future. Click on the link (Math Month at AMA) or the poster to explore how mathematics and statistics are the future of prediction, providing insights and driving innovation. – See more at: http://www.ams.org/samplings/math-awareness-month/mam#sthash.VowMtyFO.dpuf
Other activities planned include a fun Counting Contest in the Math Wing display case and a Teacher Trivia Quiz. Stop by the Math Resource Room (the Matrix) to drop off your guess (make sure you include your name and homeroom). The math department will also recognize one student per day as the Math Student of the Day who will be presented with a certificate during their math class.
North’s Media Center is also getting in on the fun with a book stacking contest. Be sure to stop by the Media Center over the next few weeks to try your hand at making the highest stack without it falling. The Library also has a superb selection of Math related books on display that you may check out.
